Gian Piero Gasperini has hailed his Atalanta side after they produced a stunning performance to beat Bayer Leverkusen 3-0 in the UEFA Europa League last 16.

The Serie A side were in impressive form throughout the match, and they took the lead in the first half through Josip Ilicic. Duvan Zapata added a second after the break, and Luis Muriel completed the scoring late on.

“I am very proud of my players,” Gasperini said after the match. “They played with great intensity and determination, and they deserved to win.

“We knew that Leverkusen would be a tough opponent, but we were confident that we could get a good result. We worked hard in training, and it paid off tonight.”

Atalanta will now face RB Leipzig in the quarter-finals of the competition.
