Welsh Open Trophy Bears His Name
In recognition of his exceptional contributions to the sport, the trophy awarded to the winner of the Welsh Open has been named the Ray Reardon Trophy since 2016.
A Storied Career
Reardon, a Welsh snooker legend, enjoyed a remarkable career. In 1978, he regained the world title after trailing 27 points to Mountjoy in the last-16 round. He went on to defeat Bill Werbeniuk to claim victory.
Reardon holds the distinction of being the first Welsh player to win the world title. His compatriots Terry Griffiths and Mark Williams have also lifted the prestigious trophy.
Personal Life
Beyond his achievements on the snooker table, Ray Reardon married Sue Carter in 1959. He has also served as a mentor to renowned snooker player Ronnie O'Sullivan.
